What communities are

Places built differently

Intentional communities, eco-villages, and off-grid settlements are built around shared values — sustainability, self-reliance, and a slower, more connected way of living. Each one has its own rhythm, its own land, and its own people. This is where you start finding the one that fits.

Frequently asked questions

What is an intentional community?

An intentional community is a group of people who choose to live together around shared values — sustainability, cooperation, spirituality, or simply a slower pace of life. Members design their own governance, share resources, and often build much of their own infrastructure.

What makes an off-grid community different?

Off-grid communities generate their own power, source their own water, and grow much of their own food, often in remote or rural settings. Life is shaped by the land and the seasons rather than by a city grid — trading some convenience for independence and connection.

Can you visit or stay in an intentional community?

Most of the communities on OGD welcome visitors — through short stays, work exchanges, retreats, or scheduled events. It is usually the easiest way to understand whether a community is the right fit before considering anything longer-term.

How does OGD help me discover, experience, live, and own?

Each Community page connects the whole journey — its story and lifestyle, its stays and events, its monthly living options, and the homes and land available there, so you can move from curiosity to belonging at your own pace.

Do communities charge a membership fee?

This varies by community — some are fully open, others ask for a contribution toward shared resources. Each Community page includes the details you need before reaching out.
