Stay details

Cuarto Mono is a private room on an 18-year-old off-grid permaculture farm within the Tacotal community in Alajuela, Costa Rica. The room is situated upstairs in the main community house and has a personal yoga deck with a hammock, overlooking an orchard with sunset views toward the Maderal ridge. Monkeys are regularly spotted in the surrounding trees. The farm runs on solar power with gravity-fed water and maintains a productive garden of fruit trees and native plants. Guests share the house with a small number of other residents and have access to the communal vegetarian kitchen. Garden space and private river access via the Tacotal community trails are also included.

Is this stay a good fit?

Best suited for
Solo travelers or couples wanting a quiet, immersive stay on a long-established permaculture farm — guests drawn to a private room with its own yoga deck, orchard and sunset views, regular monkey sightings, solar power and gravity-fed water, and a slower pace shared with a small community of residents. Also a strong fit for remote workers or longer-term guests, with a monthly rate available.
Not ideal for
Groups or families needing multiple rooms or full privacy — this is a single private room inside a shared community house with a communal kitchen and living space. Not the right fit for travelers wanting a self-contained or hotel-style stay.

Community

Collectivo Tacotal

One of Costa Rica's oldest intentional communities — 60 acres of forest and farmland along the Rio Machuca, collectively owned since 2007 and run entirely by consensus. Smaller, quieter, and less structured than its neighbours by design.
